Support with Sleep
The Mental Health Foundation say that good sleep helps all of us to:
- Manage feelings, emotions and behaviours
- Be alert and remember things more effectively
- Boost our immune system
A lack of sleep can make us:
- Feel low, anxious, irritable or confused
- Make it harder for us to manage our emotions and challenges in life
The table below, created by the NHS, gives an indication of the amount of sleep your child needs on a regular basis to keep them healthy.
Age Group | Age Range | Recommended Hours of Sleep per 24 Hours |
Infant | 4 - 12 months | 12 - 16 hours (including naps) |
Toddler | 1 - 2 years | 11 - 14 hours (including naps) |
Preschool | 3 - 5 years | 10 - 13 hours (including naps) |
School Age | 6 - 12 years | 9 - 12 hours |
